Ok the association between Ralph Lauren (US) and Burberry (UK) is brilliant!! And I feel like RL is having a resurgence in the US so they literally have a roadmap to follow should they want to. Imagine if they opened a vintage shop just like RL did!!

❤️❤️❤️ & ralph lauren is killing it. they are really redeeming themselves for those ugly olympic uniforms lmaooo. & that’d be very smart 👀

I disagree. RL had a great 80's image, Buzzy Kerbox and all that. But, kids in high school were wearing it. It became throw away fashion and oversaturated. Burberry might nuance a lifestyle a bit better, but I think they've always had that problem. Some of this post is hyperbolic. "Tragic"? Gimme a little Alexa, I'm good.

That ad campaign made me furious they’re just so confused… couldn’t agree more that they need to go back to their roots and imagine a collection of reworked deadstock trenches!

And continued… YES Moss and Miller would be good- but are we aging ourselves and the brand by inserting those icons? even though they are epitome of Glastonbury!!- seems their team said “we gotta appeal to the NEW Gen Burberry buyers”

totally agree. i think there is SUCH a lack of young, new, fresh models. it would be very cool if they could stand alone by using interesting faces, creative instead of relying on nostalgia. I just feel like if they are going to go that route… go big or go home !!! hahaha

was JUST thinking about Burberry! I think it was an image of Kate Moss campaign that came up on Insta the other day… or walking past our store in mall…

or thinking about my plaid trimmed bikini bought in early 00s that I desperately want to replace… And YES! Agree about the marketing- TRENCH it.

So many great ideas! But is outerwear sufficient to keep a brand afloat? Of all the categories, it feels like the one that consumers buy least frequently: they don’t tend to have as many pieces, and tend to wear the pieces they do have for longer.

Starting with going back to their roots makes sense but to really thrive, they’ll need to do more.

Great question. I think in my mind I was thinking of tying in outwear with weather resistant clothes as well! Like basically, luxury clothes made for surviving the “elements” so to speak! Which they did lean into with the Glastonbury campaign but the excessive nova check ruined it for me lol.

Can’t they go back to their Rosie Huntington-Whiteley moment?

I agree on all of this - Burberry is a heritage brand, so strongly associated with their trench and outerwear, and I think they need to really lean into that. I see vintage Burberry coats in my city ALL THE TIME. Seriously, they are everywhere, as low as $50. I owned one back in 2011!

dang, $50 that’s a steal. esp for a vintage one !!

Mine was $36, I recall- can still find them for under that. However I did discover that I am not a trench coat gal.😁
